Behind the Mask
This was something I wrote back in high school! Let me know of your thoughts on this one!
I see a happy and beautiful girl.
Always smiling, always laughing.
It's like everyone knew her, her name was always called.
And you can see the smile that runs across her face when she hears it, she feels seen. The sparkle on her eyes and the joy in her voice as she greets her friends. She’s usually the one who likes to make others laugh, it gave her a sense of happiness and comfort.
So what happens when no one’s around? When the door closes behind her, who does she become then?
Is she still the same girl we see in the outside world, or does the dark conquer her mind and heart?
She designed this mask, the purpose was to cover up her thoughts, fears, and scars. She was taught to hide it, so no one can see it.
Behind that’s mask is a girl who has stayed up all night, distracting her mind from the dark thoughts that linger in the back of her head.
One who wakes up from nightmares at 3am and prays to her lord to help her sleep in peace.
Finds ways to punish herself for messing something up, blaming herself because that’s all she knows.
She’s screaming for help through a glass door that no one can hear her.
They see her clearly, but they dont hear her.
All these negetives thoughts…
I'm Useless
I'm Selfish
I screwed it up, like I always do.
They’re going to leave me.
No one loves me.
I don’t deserve anyone good.
The clouds are forming and it’s all becoming dark.
Goodbye light, hello darkness.
“Welcome home.” As it slowly creeps above my head. “Welcome home,” I whispered.
